Joining Birchwood
We are always pleased to welcome new families to Birchwood Primary Academy. This page sets out how to apply for a place — both for children starting Reception in September and for in-year admissions further up the school.
How to apply
Birchwood Primary Academy is part of the local authority's co-ordinated admissions scheme. All applications — whether for Reception or in-year — should be made through [Local Authority Name].
Starting Reception
Applications for Reception places open in the autumn term of the year before your child is due to start. Full details of the timetable, including the closing date and the date offers are made, are published on the local authority website.
In-year admissions
If you are moving into the area, or would like your child to join us partway through the year, please contact the school office or apply through the local authority's in-year admissions process.
Visiting before you apply
We strongly encourage prospective families to visit before applying. Our tours give you a chance to walk the building during the school day and ask any questions. Please contact the office on [School Phone] to arrange a date that suits you.
Admissions FAQs
A few questions we are asked most often. If you cannot see the answer you are looking for, please get in touch with the school office.
How are places allocated if the school is oversubscribed?
Places are allocated according to our published oversubscription criteria, which include children in care, siblings of pupils already on roll, distance from the school and other categories set out in our admissions policy. The full policy is available in the Downloads section below.
What is the school day?
The school day runs from 8:45am to 3:15pm, with a breakfast club from 7:45am and after-school clubs running until 5:30pm. Full details are on our Contact Us page.
Do you have a school uniform?
Yes — we have a simple, affordable uniform that you can buy from any high-street retailer plus a small number of branded items available through our supplier. A full uniform list is in the Downloads section.
How can I find out more about the school?
The best way is to visit. Tours run throughout the year and we are happy to answer questions over the phone or by email in the meantime.
